Gabriel’s Potty

Posted by Christina on Monday Jul 19, 2010 Under Life

Gabriel loves his potty chairs. We have two potty chairs in the upstairs bathrooms and a potty chair insert that fits over the regular toilet seat downstairs. My mom taught him to grunt when he sits on it, so that’s always entertaining. He knows when he’s pooping and says “poop”, but we have yet to get him to the chair before it actually happens. We’re not actively trying to potty train yet, but we’re getting him used to the idea.

The other day Gabriel picked up his rolled up diaper that I had set aside to put in the trash and carried it to his potty chair. He said “poop” and “potty” and then he dropped it in the bowl and shut the lid. I guess that’s one way to get the job done…

He hasn’t quite figured out how to get himself on the potty correctly. Also, we do not ordinarily keep the potty chair in the living room.

Haha that’s how Bennett trys to sit in his too – his feet always end up in the wrong spot!

How cute! What age to kids normally potty train?

Sorry, what age DO kids normally potty train?

Stryker used to end up the same way on his potty chair when we first started, too. Peytra can already sit on hers correctly, but she has yet to potty in it. (We’ve only been trying for 3 days.)
Stryker was trained at 2 1/2, but I think anywhere from 2-4 is normal (usually, later for boys, earlier for girls).

My mom said I was potty trained by the time my sister was born (I would have been 20 months), but I think that is kind of early. I’ve always heard that if they are trained at two that is great, but it could take up to four years. After that, you start to get worried. :)

I have gotten Bennett to go potty a few times but we haven’t been very consistant in trying until lately. He will sit but always wants to get up right away so I have to bring something in the bathroom to distract him. I’ve heard that kids who are in daycare potty train a little faster because they “watch” the bigger kids and learn that way. Too bad none of us can test that theory though. Good luck everyone!
